Why? Because Atlanta’s own charity organization, CARE, together with ZOOMA Atlanta, is hosting the city’s first ever half marathon on November 16th, 2008 to help improve the lives of girls all over the world! Now if you read this blog regularly, you know that there are over 600 million girls in the developing world struggling with teen marriages, babies, AIDS, illiteracy, dirty water and poverty. From here, their problems seem almost insurmountable, but in fact, there are reasonable, affordable solutions available that can make a world of difference to them, and by extension, to all of us. And this is where we come in, Peachtree Corners women . . .
By investing in these girls, by getting them into school and making it possible for them to learn to read and write, they can change this whole troubled world of ours for the better! Girls are POWERFUL, both for what they contribute to their families and their communities when they are young, and for their unlimited potential as women.
Sounds good but you’re still not sure about running a half marathon? Here are some incentives!
- A fabulous After-Party with lunch catered for all participants by Sweet Tomatoes.
- A ‘yoga studio’ sponsored by City Sports and Danskin at the After-Party Expo where you will be able to stretch and relax after crossing the finish line.
- Aromatic hot towel treatments, reflexology, hand treatments and mini massages by Nani Salon & Spa at the After-Party Expo.
- And, great prizes and incentives for everyone who helps raise funds for CARE!
If you would like to join a team for this race, please email Shelby Katz (Shelbykatz1 [at] aol.com) who is heading up a Peachtree Corners team of women.
Or, if you'd rather participate as an individual, or with one or two friends, and still raise funds for CARE, click here for the registration site! As of today, there are almost 1,400 runners registered, so don’t miss out!
And if you need a little nudge, take a look at CARE’s two-minute video clip below and imagine yourself helping even one girl find her way to a better life . . .
